What information we collect
- Your name and contact details.
- Details about your matter, including the facts you tell us and the documents you send us.
- Financial and payment information.
- Our correspondence with you and with others about your matter.
- Information you submit through the enquiry forms on this website.
We normally receive information directly from you. Sometimes we receive it from your representatives or advisers, from third parties involved in a matter, or from publicly available records and court documents.
Website enquiries
Website enquiry information is information submitted through website forms. We use it to respond to and manage the enquiry.
Client and case data
Client/case data is information provided after engagement, including matter details and documents. We handle it for the engagement and retain it under our records policy.
How we use your information, and our lawful bases
- To provide the services you have engaged us for and to run our contract with you.
- Lawful basis: performance of our contract with you.
- To keep proper business and financial records and to meet our legal and tax obligations.
- Lawful basis: legal obligation.
- To respond to enquiries, manage our business and improve how we work.
- Lawful basis: legitimate interests.
- To send you updates or marketing where you have asked for them.
- Lawful basis: consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
Sensitive information
Matters we help with sometimes involve sensitive information, such as details about health, family circumstances, or financial difficulty. Where we hold that kind of information we do so only where the law allows it — usually because it is necessary for establishing, exercising or defending legal claims, or because you have given us your permission. We treat it with the same confidentiality as the rest of your information.
Keeping it secure
We keep your information confidential. Access is limited to people who need it for their work, and we keep information in line with our professional confidentiality obligations.
How long we keep it
Website enquiry information is kept only as long as needed to respond to and manage the enquiry, and is then deleted or securely disposed of when no longer needed.
Matter files, signed contracts and financial records are kept for six years after the matter closes, and are then securely deleted or destroyed.
Information held only for updates is kept until the person asks us to stop.
Your rights
- Ask for a copy of your information.
- Ask us to correct anything inaccurate.
- Ask us to delete information in some circumstances.
- Ask us to restrict how we use it.
- Object to how we use it.
- Ask for information you gave us to be transferred to another provider.
- Withdraw consent where our use is based on consent.
These rights are not absolute. We will tell you if an exception applies.
If you are unhappy about how we have handled your information
Raise it with our Client Care Manager at info@lawvision.co.uk first.
We will acknowledge your complaint within 2 business days, give you a substantive response within 7 business days, and give you a final response within 14 business days of receiving the complaint or any further information we need.
If you are still unhappy you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. Nothing in this notice affects your legal rights.
Changes to this notice
We may update this notice from time to time. We will change the “last updated” date when we do, and any significant change will be made clear on this page.
